Another Europe is Possible is looking for an experienced part time Communications and Campaigns Officer to lead its outward-facing work. 

Another Europe was set up in 2016 to put forward an independent, left wing case for Remain. Since then, we have become a leading voice in the Brexit debate, putting forward the case for a public vote on the deal, and for continued and improved freedom of movement.

We are a broad organisation, bringing together a coalition that includes greens, socialists, social democrats and many unaligned progressives, as well as NGOs and international networks. We are also a democratic organisation, with around 1400 members and an elected National Committee. Our campaigning work (which you would be running!) varies a lot, and tends to focus on migrants’ rights and intervening in the Brexit process.

Job description

The Communications and Campaigns Officer will work as part of a small team of part time staff to deliver Another Europe is Possible’s outward-facing work. 

The purpose of this role is to support Another Europe in developing and delivering its campaign and communications strategy and coordinating the work of the organisation. This is a varied role with changing responsibilities on a week to week basis and your work will include: 

Strategy

  • Managing internal and external stakeholders
  • Helping to oversee the broad strategic development of the organisation
  • Providing strategic advice to the National Committee

Campaign creation and delivery

  • Evaluating, designing and prioritising campaigns
  • Organising meetings and conferences
  • Organising protests and stunts

Press and communications work 

  • Managing press contacts and placing stories with journalists
  • Writing and sending press releases

Membership communications 

  • Managing and implementing a weekly comms plan across all comms outputs
  • Drafting emails to our email list
  • Drafting copy for events, campaigns and literature
  • Running social media pages

Administration 

  • Providing administrative support to the National Committee
  • Administrating the organisational email
  • Providing administrative support and services to members

Person specification

To do this job, you will need:

  • Alignment with the aims and objectives of Another Europe
  • To be self-starting, show initiative and able to work independently with limited formal supervision
  • Experience of working with the press 
  • Experience of member-led decision making and an understanding of the role of staff in democratic organisations
  • An ability to manage deadlines and many competing priorities
  • Experience of running and delivering campaigns
  • Experience of working in an activist environment
  • Experience of running social media
  • Basic working policy knowledge of Another Europe’s areas of work: migrants’ rights, Brexit, workers’ rights, the environment, and so on
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • A willingness to learn new things, grapple with new processes
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours
  • Flexibility 

And the following are desirable:

  • Video editing, design or advanced social media expertise
  • Experience of working to change the policy of a political party
  • Experience of working directly with politicians 
  • Experience and knowledge of the trade union movement
  • Experience of working with our partner organisations, international partners or affiliates
  • Detailed knowledge of one or more of our areas of campaigning
