Following the Labour Party’s announcement that it would back a public vote on Brexit, Another Europe is Possible has re-launched its motion to CLPs.

If you are in Labour, please put the following motion to your local party and tell us about it by emailing info@anothereurope.org

Stop Tory Brexit and transform society

This CLP welcomes the Labour leadership’s backing for a fresh public vote on our EU membership with the option to remain.

Over the years since the first referendum in 2016, the Tories’ Brexit agenda has been exposed as a means of deregulating and destabilising the economy, attacking our rights and freedoms, and undermining our ability to implement a radical manifesto. Labour must now campaign against Brexit on the doorstep, and prepare to win a fresh referendum.

We are clear that as part of this, our messaging should make a clear and passionate case for the kind of Europe that we want to see as socialists. If we are serious about ending the hostile environment for migrants we must extend, not limit free movement. We must end detention, deportations and denial of access to services.

We cannot campaign for the status quo – either here or across Europe. We want a battle for levelling up of wages, conditions, services and rights across Europe and beyond, and for democratisation of European and international institutions.

We therefore resolve:

1. That all Labour MPs must vote in favour of a public vote on the final Brexit deal

2. That Labour must campaign for a public vote, not just vote for one – including by mobilising for demonstrations
3. That Remain must be an option in any future public vote, and that Labour must back remain
4. To make this policy part of our own CLP campaigning activity, and to contact Another Europe is Possible for materials, CLP speakers and assistance in campaigning.
5. Our case for Remain must be built on a vision for transforming society, not defending the status quo
