Labour for a People’s Vote launched

A grassroots campaign from the left of the party to stop Tory Brexit

Today, Another Europe has been part of launching a new campaign. Labour for a People’s vote is calling on the party to resist Tory Brexit. This is a real grassroots initiative – a motion calling for a people’s vote on the terms of the deal, with an option to remain in the EU, is already being submitted to at least 62 CLPs.

If you’re a Labour member, you can be a part of it. Check out Labour for a People’s vote here

The only Brexit on the cards is Theresa May’s Brexit, and it spells disaster for ordinary people. It will allow the Tories to further deregulate the economy, roll back our workers’ rights and environmental protections and punish migrants for the failures of the elite. It will cost us jobs, hit working class communities hardest and speed up the destruction of the NHS and other public services. This is not what anyone voted for, and the Tories have no mandate to carry out their plans. The public are increasingly sceptical about the government’s ability to negotiate a good deal.

The vital task of stopping Brexit cannot be left to the old and discredited establishment. Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour has mobilised millions of people, offering hope for a government for the many not the few. Now, it is time for Labour to stand up for those it represents and fight back against a Tory attack on our rights, freedoms and prosperity.

It is in the interests of a future Labour government to stop the Tories in their tracks and keep Britain in the EU. Corbyn should implement the radical manifesto that inspired millions of voters, rather spending time trying to clean up the mess of May’s Brexit deal: economic chaos, dodgy trade deals and far right movements empowered by nationalist rhetoric and attacks on migrants.

The pressure for a referendum on the deal is growing.  This Saturday, 100,000 people marched in London to demand a final say. A petition of Momentum members calling on the organisation to have a democratic vote on stopping Tory Brexit has within days gathered over 2,000 signatures. Now, all eyes are on Labour and it is down to its members to ensure the party is on the right side of history.

Here’s what you can do:
